PIP 012: Why you need to start creating your own luck today.

Hello and welcome to the Personal Innovation Podcast with me Eric Seyram. This podcast is Brought to you by personalinnovationhub.com , the platform that ignites your Dreams, Passions, Careers and Impact. Personal Innovation Hub is committed to getting you to think bigger about who you are, what you do and how you can impact the world in a unique way.   In this episode I want to tell you: Why you need to start creating your own luck today. Do you think some people are just born lucky? Or do you believe you make your own luck in life? Do you consider yourself to be lucky? Or not? There is a misconception that people who are successful are just ‘lucky’ – as if luck happens by chance; that successful people are at the right place at the right time, meeting the right people, making the right connections, clinching the right jobs and contracts through luck. I hear people say I didn't get that job, I couldn't get married last year, I don't get to make good friends because I am just not lucky or fortunate enough. Luck is real, It happens to all of us. In fact we are all lucky people. All that is left for us to do is to identify luck and welcome it in, when it knocks on our door. Fact is, luck is not about sitting and waiting for something to happen – there are things we need to do to engineer luck. We have control over our success than we think. Personal innovation is about creating your Own Luck. being conscious and proactive about taking action to be at the right places at the right time, working hard at meeting the right kinds of people, getting these people to fall in love with us and become interested in working with us. If you ask any incredibly successful entrepreneur and any person who is incredibly successful in any pursuit they will tell you, luck played an important role in their success. This is why I say; Talent, expertise, determination, perseverance, all these qualities and many more are certainly important but they are not enough. For instance you would have to nature and hone your talent in singing, dancing, or painting for it to blossom and bear the fruits you desire. Same is luck: meeting the right person, being at the right place, making a snap decision that turns out so much better than you ever expected is a fruit of good luck coupled with proactivity and handwork amidst talents and technical knowhow. Luck isn’t just a random gift from the universe. Winning the lottery is luck, but that’s a different kind of luck. and it is a rare occurrence that doesn't happen to all of us. Luck actually has less to do with what happens to you and more to do with how you think and act when those things happen to you. Luck happens when you grab the opportunities that are thrown at you. Some times when we don't react or handle opportunities and random events and occurrences in our lives in the right way, they become a misfortune that spells our doom and we call it bad luck. Thats why Thomas Jefferson once said; “I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” and Arnold Palmer is also quoted to have said “The more I practice, the luckier I get. This is one of the principles of the personal innovation concept. it is better to be proactive than reactive in life. It’s easy to assume successful people are just luckier than the rest of us. I don't think so… I believe the difference between “the haves and the have nots “ is that the ‘haves just mastered the art of creating their own luck. Take Bill Gates: Is he just Lucky enough to go to one of the few schools with a Teletype connection so he could learn to program? And is Paul Allen: lucky enough to be friends with Bill Gates… who was lucky enough to be at Harvard and has access to a computer that was used to develop and test the new operating system that brought them all the fortunes in life? Were this two, simply lucky? Think about the many successful people around you. Is it just luck, that brought them that far? Of course not. People we call “lucky” respond to circumstances positively, spotting the opportunity and then acting on that opportunity. In fact, lucky people create their own luck by actively seeking to put themselves in the right place at the right time – and being in the right frame of mind to seize “lucky” opportunities. Today, i want you to think bigger about the happenings in your environment and get ready to turn every threat into an opportunity and every misfortune into a fortune. Differentiate your self, be valuable and live your life as a love story.
